When placing a high-frequency differential signal pair (such as USB 3.0 SuperSpeed operating up to 5 Gbps) adjacent to a 1000 Base-T Ethernet port (running on a 125 MHz carrier frequency), electromagnetic crosstalk (FEXT and NEXT) poses a substantial challenge. If the layout is unshielded, the switching noise of the USB transceiver can couple directly into the sensitive Ethernet transformer windings.
